U13s v Read School

On Saturday 12th November, the U13s bounced back to winning ways with a hard fought game against Read. In a tough physical battle, two evenly matched teams took part in an entertaining game in wet conditions. George Waterson opened the scoring followed by an impressive effort s from Peter Davey and Charlie Ellis who both helped each other drive over the on both occasions.  With the scores locked at 15 each Fulneck stretched ahead in the final 10 minutes with tries from Edmund Okpala. This was an excellent game where both teams really battled hard. The half back pair of Daniel Madden and Thomas Hobbs kept the game going efficiently and with the forwards confidence improving, the squad will look forward to a strong end to the seasons

                                                           U15’s v Read School

The U15s were solid in victory against Read and showed some flashes of brilliance in a comprehensive victory.  The game started with a big battle up front with Matthew McMahon dominating the forwards. George Bradley opened the scoring with an impressive solo run and he was backed up by Conor Macphee before scoring his second.

Read got back into the game too late when the game was put to bed by an excellence drive and score from Daniel Mohun.

In the second half, playing with a different squad, Fulneck kept up their impressive run of form. Despite going a try down straight from the kick off, Tom Farnell rallied the troops and Edward Kelly ran in two quick tries to put any thoughts of a comeback to bed. All 19 players played extremely well and with a number of players playing in different and new positions the result was even more impressive.

U13 Football v Huddersfield Grammar School

FULNECK 5 - HUDDERSFIELD 3

The U13s played their first football match of the year and won in comprehensive fashion against a strong Huddersfield outfit. Playing uphill in the first half Fulneck flew ahead with 2 goals from Edmund Okpala and one from Matthew Hemmins. Sitting on a 3-0 lead, Fulneck relaxed and Huddersfield got back into the game with two stunning strikes to make the half time score 3 – 2.

Some excellent play from the midfield contingent of Jorge Bentley and Ibraheem Ijaz enabled Fulneck to dominate in the second half. After a period of excellent football it was Matthew Hemmins that nipped in with two goals to round off an excellent hat trick and a strong team performance. Mustapha Mahmood was impressive at the back in goals and Jack Bellfield and the Ibbotson twins played well in the Senior School debut. This was a strong win for the U13s and shows plenty of positives for the season which starts after Christmas.

                                      U15 Football v Huddersfield Grammar School

Playing for 20mins in total darkness, both teams put up a fantastic fight in a thrilling draw.

Playing with a small side Fulneck hit the front with a well taken header from Jamie Bradley after excellent play down the right from Thomas Hobbs. Fulneck continued to press through Russell Pritchard and Sam Dover, while Hassan Abdul Fattah was unlucky not to extend the lead just before the break.

Daniel Mohun and Jamie Bradley were instrumental at the back and in keeping Huddersfield at bay. Huddersfield finally drew level after a deflected shot found the bottom corner. The last ten minutes was frenetic with both sides pushing for the win. Matthew McMahon made a stunning save in the final few minutes and Derek Yu was unlucky not to find the winner with the last kick of the game.

This was an excellent game played by two committed teams in fading light and misty conditions. All looks promising for the season ahead.
