Advent Activities
On Thursday 8th and Friday 9th of December the Church was open at lunchtime for Advent themed activities. There were six tables around the Church with members of the Church helping at each and Christmas Carols playing in the background. The first table invited pupils to think about which of the characters in the nativity story they were most like. At the second table they wrote down the distractions which prevent them focussing on God. The third table was a collage of the stable made from Christmas wrapping and adverts, turning the commercial into something spiritual. At the fourth table pupils wrote a prayer on a strip of paper and joined it to our prayer paper chain, which was added to by members of the Church on Sunday morning. The fifth table asked ‘What are you waiting for this Advent?’ and ‘What is God waiting for?’ At the final table they wrote a letter to God with their Christmas hopes and concerns. Over thirty pupils came over the two days. They enjoyed doing the activities, chatting with the adult helpers, and eating the chocolates which they took away with them at the end!
Former Pupils Christingles
On Thursday evening the school hosted the annual Former Pupils’ Christingles service in Fulneck Church. The school choir as well as pupil readers contributed to the service which celebrates the Christmas message.
Girls’ Football
YEAR 8 girls played their first six-a-side tournament away at Hanson School in the NPower Football League Girls’ Cup this week, which saw the squad play through rain, sleet, hail and snow to come joint third. The first match against Oakbank School saw Olivia Hellas score within the first minute, followed by a second goal minutes later, and the win was completed with a superb shot by Millie Long. The strong defence saw excellent clearances from Katie Myers who demonstrated her tenacity in tackling cleanly throughout, supported by Evita Rumsey who made a number of strong tackles to close down the attack. Similarly, Naomi Calvert came through to clear the ball in several attacks on the Fulneck defence. Goal keeper Charlotte Nash made some excellent saves to maintain the clean sheet and to keep them within touching distance in the first match and forward Aastha Pal demonstrated her speed and agility in connecting with several through balls. “The atmosphere was great, and the girls played really well,” said coach Miss Senior. “We’ll definitely be back to win next time!” she added.
GCSE Taster week
Year 9 pupils have been given the opportunity to find out what is involved in each subject at GCSE level, prior to them beginning to make their option choices for next year. Not only can they continue to study the subjects which are on the Year 9 timetable, but three new subjects appear as GCSE options – Psychology, Business Studies and Physical Education.
