Year 11 Sixth Form Taster Day

On Wednesday, Year 11 students enjoyed the opportunity to be Sixth Formers for the day.  They were immaculately turned out in their business suits and ready for the challenges of A level study.

The students worked in small groups, taking part in five 'taster' lessons in subjects many had never studied before; namely, Economics, Media Studies, Psychology, Government and Politics and Philosophy & Ethics.  All five subjects are available for study in the Sixth Form, along with many more.  Miss Meadows, Head of Sixth Form, commented, "we are very lucky to have the flexibility here at Fulneck to be able to design a curriculum which is tailored each year to our students' interests and aspirations.  It means that we can personalise our offer to individual students to help them fulfil their academic potential, as well as setting them up for success in winning a place in Higher Education."

The feedback from the Year 11 students was very positive with many already looking forward to benefits such as "a more adult learning atmosphere". The Sixth Form Student Leaders – Kishan Patel, Abi Wilkinson, Georgia Dean, Connor Avery and Sam Lawman – who led the feedback session were highly impressed by the mature manner in which the Year 11s conducted themselves throughout the morning.

German Market Visit

Students in year 8 studying German visited the German Christmas Market in Leeds on Thursday. We were given a tour inside the Frankfurter scheune and around the Market by Ms Kugelmann, she spoke to students about the Christmas celebrations, traditions and the origins of the market. Students had a chance to ask many questions and sample the German food and drinks on offer. In the afternoon they worked on completing a series of activities to give them the opportunity to practise their German language skills and learn more about German culture as well as being able to buy a few little treats for themselves and their families.

The students were a credit to the school and showed a lot of enthusiasm and interest, all staff involved were very impressed with their manners and fantastic behaviour.

Spanish Fashion

Students in year 9 prepared a group presentation in Spanish. They produced catalogues promoting their creative brands culminating in a catwalk of their clothes, as well as power point presentations with models and presenters. They worked very hard and made excellent presentations.

Ski Trip

The end of term came two days early for a group of 42 pupils and five staff as they set off for the Alpine slopes in Folgarida in Italy.  The conditions appear favourable as the five day forecast predicts snow falls over the next few days.

Senior Christingles

As always the final night of term was marked by the celebration of the annual Christingles service. The festival originated in the Moravian Church over 260 years ago and is rich in beauty and tradition. Various members of the school contributed with the nine lessons, the choir performed three musical items and the congregation enjoyed the singing of well known carols. This was followed by drinks and mince pies in the West Hall.
