Rugby

1st XV v Woodhouse Grove

In what was the worst conditions of the season so far, Fulneck travelled to the Grove with a weakened  but extremely committed team to play. In driving rain Fulneck never lost heart  and gave their captain Elvis Li a fantastic send off in his last game for the senior side.

Playing against the wind and hail Fulneck put in an excellent first half performance and were unlucky to go into the break 3 tries down. Ajay Palakattil, Bradley Jones and Matthew McMahon were excellent in defence and some quick thinking from Conor Macphee and Callum Murgatroyd prevented two further tries.  James Hirst and Sean Burns were excellent in defence and attack.  Lewis Bainton proved vital with some impressive clearances to keep the Grove away from the try line.

In the second half, playing against a completely fresh side, the mud covered and rain soaked Fulneck players continued to battle hard and took the game to the Grove . Callum Murgatroyd, Sean Burns and Conor Macphee all made some excellent attacking runs towards the Grove line. Murgatroyd's kicking game was getting better and better. In the dying minutes Fulneck was presented with a glorious chance but unfortunately, Sean Burns was unable to score.

This was an excellent performance against a really strong side and Fulneck deserved real credit for their performance. They never gave up and were praised greatly by the Grove staff at full time.
