Duke of Edinburgh Award
Year 10 pupils were given an assembly on Friday at which they were told about the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. This extra-curricular activity is very popular amongst the older students at Fulneck and we anticipate a large number of Year 10 will commit to taking part.
Physics of Computer Games
A level Physics students were joined by pupils in Year 8 at a presentation by Dr Jon Purdy, Head of Mathematics and Computational Sciences from the University of Bradford on Tuesday 4th October.
During a fascinating hour, Dr Jon Purdy showed how much Physics and mathematics are involved in the design of computer games. Rapid developments in games hardware mean that spare computing capacity is increasingly available within games software. This is increasingly used to produce real time physics simulations using advanced computational mathematics. Our pupils learnt that real time water simulations, cloth models and other soft body effects, all relying on Physics equations, are done in modern computer games.
Rugby Coaching
The U13 year group were given a coaching session by ex- British Lion and Great Britain Rugby League star John Bentley on Friday.
John came as part of the schools link with Leeds Carnegie and will be delivering world class coaching sessions to all year groups throughout the school from now until Christmas.
John delivered a defensive session with the students learning all key areas of the tackle, the breakdown and even some wrestling moves!!!!!!
After their coaching sessions ,the U12s will take part in a Friday half time match when Leeds play local rivals Rotherham Titans on Friday November 25th
Netball
On Wednesday 5th October the Senior Team competed in the Leeds Schools’ Tournament at Woodhouse Grove. Fulneck had to work hard from the start of the first match to the very last whistle. Unfortunately we lost to some very strong teams but the girls should not be disheartened as the whole team prevented any opposition scoring more than 9 goals in a 14 minute match- an extremely commendable effort.
The Teams we played were Prince Henrys Grammar School, Woodhouse Grove, The Grammar School at Leeds and Guiseley School.
Player of the Tournament was Emily Bradley
