Netball

U13 and u15 v Hipperholme Grammar School                                  Saturday 1st October

In the first Netball matches of the season  the U15 girls were unsure what to expect from their opposition so started the matches competitively; strong in defence and quick in attack. There were some excellent shots scored by Jaimi Ann Shaw, Laura Gudgeon and Natasha Ghandi. The whole team should be congratulated for their determined performance and for winning 22-5.

Final score – Hipperholme 5 – Fulneck 22

Having been inspired by watching the u15’s, the U13’s also started their match well. Although the game was slower, there were some excellent moves in both defence and attack enabling Fulneck to win the ball in defence and keep possession in attack. It is worth mentioning that this game was the first match that some girls had ever played and so their win was a triumphant effort. Special mention must go to Kim Basra who played a strong Goal Defence and to Georgia Wade who proves to be a versatile player- playing both a shooting position and Centre Court.

Final score -    Hipperholme 0 – Fulneck 7

Rugby

1st XV v Hipperholme Grammar School                                            Saturday 1st October

Under a blazing sun, Fulneck began the rout of the opposition from the starting whistle. The forwards dominated the ruck and Sean Burns organised the backline with increased fluency without the game. Despite the loss of Calum Murgatroyd early on, Fulneck reorganised and quick tries from Sam Lockwood and Lewis Bainton saw Fulneck hit the front.

Reece Macdonald began to organise the backline and Robert ChIvese crossed in the corner after some excellent work from Sam Lockwood. Fulneck went into the break 17 – 0 ahead.

The lads kept up their intensity in the second period scoring tries at will against a tiring Hipperholme team. Jass Basra crossed the whitewash after turning a scrum and Eric Tong showed some outstanding footwork to score two tries. Ajay scored under the posts after hard work at the breakdown and Sam Lockwood crossed after some excellent support play from the back line. Reece Macdonald continued the scoring after a break from the halfway after an excellent lineout from Elvis Li

It was Fulneck’s best performance to date with some hardworking aggressive play from the forwards and with excellent support from the backs. The 1st XV have now won 2 out of their last 3 matches and will be in good shape for their big test against Leeds Grammar next week

U15s v Hipperholme Grammar School

Fulneck made it two wins in a row after another strong display in the high temperatures at Hipperholme. Fulneck were quick out of the blocks scoring two tries in the first 10 minutes. The forwards were excellent turning over every scrum and dominating the breakdown!!

Eddie Kelly led from the font and was backed up well by Jack Lunn, Matthew Turner and Matthew Leung. George Bradley crossed with a couple of well taken tries but it was the team performance that impressed the most, with some excellent team play.

Playing downhill in the second half, Fulneck dominated once again. Russ Pritchard, Bradley Lynn and Sam Dover began to get the backline working well and Daniel Mohun found space to cross for a couple of tries after some excellent angled running and Edward Kelly crossed after some excellent forward support play.

Hipperholme continued to work hard and deservedly crossed the line in the final few minutes after some hardworking play from their centres. Fulneck deserved their win and this was their most complete performance to date. Forwards worked extremely hard to put the team in the right field position and then the backs finished off the tries with some excellent running and precision.

U13s v Hipperholme Grammar School

The U13s squad continued their fine start to the season with a fighting win against a tough Hipperholme outfit. Fulneck struggled at the start and lost the ball a couple of times but gradually found their feet and Luke Gamson began to run the game linking the forwards and backs well. In both halves Fulneck began to get on top and produced some impressive Rugby. Edmund Okpala crossed for a hat trick, Thomas Hobbs scored one and Kelvin Odinuyi finished off a sweeping move to round off a comprehensive victory.

Charlie Ellis, Peter Davey and Jamie Bradley dominated the forwards as did the Ibbotson twins when they came off the bench. Mustafa Mahmood and George Wragg combined well in the second row but it was Luke Gamson who stole the show. His ability to keep the forwards moving and driving and then find the back line was extremely impressive and he was deserving of his Man of the Match award.
