1st XV v Silcoates Wednesday 21st September
Fulneck gained their first win against Silcoates for a number of years after a strong display in windy conditions at Silcoates.
Fulneck started on the back foot when Silcoates dominated in the forwards but the Seniors got their act together and played some good attacking Rugby with AJ and Tom Weaver putting in some huge defensive hits.
Sean Burns and Callum Murgatroyd started to link well and created space for Conor Macphee and Reece Macdonald to attack. Fulneck’s first try came after a period of sustained pressure in the opposition half. Elvis Li, Jass Basra and Tom Weaver all took the ball forward before Callum Murgatroyd found space to offload to Reece Macdonald.
Fulneck were playing against the wind in the second half yet started the stronger team. James Cause and Akshay Patel worked hard at the breakdown and Callum Murgatroyd cleared the lines well with some pin point kicking. After defending for 5 minutes straight through Sean Burns created space and found Reece Macdonald who stepped through the winger and full back to score the vital try. 1st XV v Woodhouse Grove Wednesday 21st September
In their second game of the afternoon, Fulneck produced an excellent performance against a physically tough team from the Grove. Playing a much stronger team, Fulneck matched them up front right from the start. Jass Basra dominated the ruck and Jack Lunn and Sam Lockwood punched above their weight to secure Fulneck plenty of ball. Jonny Beck produced some excellent footwork to break through the Grove line and was unlucky not to set up Sam Lawman out wide.
The Grove scored with only one minute before half time but that did not dampen Fulneck’s spirit at the start of the second half.
Bradley Jones stole three line outs and dominated enabling Sean Burns to give the backs plenty of ball. With Grove in possession Fulneck refused for their line to be broken and kept the winning margin to only 5 points. This game showed that Fulneck is capable of achieving a high level of Rugby this year and credit must go to all of the lads who played .
