Rugby Triangular 7’s tournament
Fulneck comprehensively beat Huddersfield in their first 7s of the season. Playing on a narrow pitch, Fulneck hit the front straight away with a well taken try from Conor Macphee after good work from Jass Basra. Conor quickly followed up with a second after neat work from Ajay.
Jed Waterson scored the second after some excellent support play and offloading from Conor Macphee. Jake Clifford quickly raced in to score after some good passing from Sean Burns and Robert Chivese.
In the second half, Jass Basra began to hit his straps and dived over the line from short range. Sean Burns carried on the fine flowing rugby and George Bradley topped off the scoring with a 50 metre effort from inside the Fulneck half.
Final score – Fulneck 34 – Huddersfield 6
Fulneck struggled at the start of a very physical game. After a poor scrimmage Fulneck were 5 – 0 down following a break down the blind side. Fulneck made the same mistake again and were faced with a massive challenge. Despite doing everything they could to get back into the game the Hipperholme defence stood firm.
In the second half it was the Sean Burns show. Darting and sniping around the ruck, Sean finally found a gap and sneaked in at the corner with only two minutes left. Despite missing with a shoddy conversion, Fulneck were back in the game.
Conor Macphee made several jinks towards the try line before Burns once again sniped down the blindside and made the scores level. Despite missing the kick Fulneck won the mini tournament on points difference after Huddersfield put up a gutsy performance against Hipperholme.
Huge credit is to be given to the lads who took to the conditions well and played some excellent Rugby.
Final score - Fulneck 10 – Hipperholme 10
Football
The U16s made it through to the second round of the ISFA national cup after a convincing win against Hillcrest Grammar School in Stockport. Despite missing three injured key players Fulneck started the stronger and went in front when Calum Murgatroyd finished in the corner from the edge of the area.
Sean Burns scored a second from 35 yards out after lobbing the keeper the bottom corner with a stunning finish. Hasn Abdul Fattah scored a third after excellent footwork Pritchard and Robert Chivese.
In the meantime Lewis Bainton made two excellent 1on1 saves that kept Hillcrest out of the game. Just before the break, Robert Chivese added a fourth after a neat finish in the bottom corner
In the second half Hillcrest kept Fulneck deep in their own half but Lewis Bainton once again made two vital saves.
Sam Dover wrapped up the game for Fulneck with a neat finish after an excellent counter attack and Hassan scored a well deserved second to make the final score 6 – 0. The game was much closer than that but Fulneck some excellent football and an excellent determination

Netball tournament
On Wednesday 12th October the U15 Leeds Schools Netball Tournament was hosted by the Grammar School at Leeds. Fulneck had to play four matches and win at least 3 to go through to the play offs. The Grammar School was our first challenge and although it was the hardest match it was a good start to the tournament, pushing everyone to play to their best. We then faced Garforth, Horsfoth and Guiseley. These were closely fought matches but Guiseley proved to be the stronger team beating us to a play- off position. All the girls played to their best in the wet weather conditions and against some tough opposition.
On Thursday Fulneck played against Gateways in 3 Netball matches at home. The U12s had a steady start and the score was only 8-1 after the first half to Gateways. The defenders started to work even harder and the attack became more structured. In the second half Fulneck defended so well they prevented any further Gateways goals and the final score was 8-5 to Gateways. It was an excellent match by all the girls.
The U13’s played on the same night and again this was a tight match only narrowly losing 12-8. Mariya Ijaz played her first game for Fulneck and should be commended on her excellent skills and effort as a Centre player.
The U15’s also played against Gateways, the score in this match did not reflect the effort and determination played by all girls, especially having played a Tournament the day before. All girls should be commended for playing as a team and working together to keep the ball in their possession and attempting to regain the ball in defence.
