News round-up week ending 12 November 2011

At the end of afternoon school on Thursday 10th November students in Years 10, 11 and 6th form came, often with their parents, to plan their futures at the biennial Careers Convention.  They had been asked which industries and careers they particularly wanted to know about, and every effort was made to invite delegates representing a wide range of professions.

For Year 11 students the event provided the opportunity to plan the next stage of their education with us here at Fulneck.  Students and their parents met with Heads of Department and the Head of Sixth Form, Miss Meadows, to explore their options for joining our Sixth Form in September 2012.  As well as learning about how their favourite subjects develop at Advanced level, there was also the chance to find out about new subjects, which have not previously been studied at GCSE level; these include Media Studies, Politics, and Philosophy and Ethics.

Furthermore, many families of Year 11 students have already capitalised upon our offer of a one-to-one guidance meeting with Miss Meadows.  This is an opportunity for a detailed discussion of students’ interests and aspirations, in relation to their choice of ‘A’ level subjects and potential university plans.  After his one-to-one session last week, Faheem Ijaz commented, “the guidance has been really useful in helping me to plan for a career in Medicine.”
