Youngsters from a Pudsey school have put nerves to one side to pass their first speech and drama exam in a nationally-recognised course. The 28 pupils have successfully passed the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) exam in speech and drama, with 19 receiving Distinction and six achieving Merits. From the reception class, three four-year-olds – some of the youngest Fulneck students ever to take the exam - were awarded two Distinctions and one Merit. For the test, the children had to stand in front of an external examiner and recite poems and then talk about their toys, pictures and books. Fulneck Head of Drama Michelle Ruse said: “For many of our students, this was their first experience taking an exam. Four-year-olds Danielle Pinkney, Jessie Wade and Tanaka Chaka deserve a special mention for taking it at such a young age! “All of the children, with no exception, did wonderfulLY. They were fully prepared after practicing for several weeks, learning their lines and actions. “LAMDA is about boosting self-confidence, and that is exactly what it has done. It gave each of the students the skills and courage to prepare their poems and topics and stand in front of an external examiner.” Miss Ruse added: “The examiner even remarked how polite and prepared they were. I am extremely proud of all our students!” London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1861, it quickly established itself as a centre of excellence in performance training. LAMDA has provided theatre and the world of film and television with generation upon generation of first-class actors and expertly-trained stage managers across the world. Since then, these examinations have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication. In addition to being the UK’s largest statutory speech and drama awarding body, LAMDA Examinations haVE a reputation for excellence across the globe.
