Junior School Netball

Match reports from Monday 30th January 2017

Fulneck School under 10s played against Silcoates School.

Our captain Jessica, unfortunately lost the toss up but that did not bring us down, at least we got to choose our shooting side. We started with some excellent defending from Zonye, (who was our wing defence) which was just the thing to pump us up as within a few minutes we were already 1-0. We continued our hard work but they put up a great fight and by the end of the first quarter it was 2-2.
We started the second quarter with a spring in our step and carefully chose our positions. When we started the match we had some excellent goalkeeping from Lily who happened to be our Goalkeeper. They played really well and must have done something because we finished the second quarter 5-3.
We knew that we could catch up if we put our mind to it so we stayed in the same positions and got to it. We all played very well with some excellent passing from Jessica who had come on as Goal Attack. We all tried our best and worked very well together but Silcoates scored again so the final score at the end of the third quarter it was 6-3.

We had to get our game on so Mr Downes changed us back to the first positions that we played. We tried our best and our teamwork paid off with goal after goal with some excellent shooting from Kaynat and terrific defending from Tafara. We had some hard times with them but by the end we had caught up and the final score was 8-7, (8 for Fulneck and 7 for Silcoates).

Fulneck School Under 11s played against Silcoates School.

The under 11s started the first quarter playing really well as a team. It was a really intense first 8 minutes, and Silcoates formed an early lead and won the first quarter 3-0.
Fulneck wanted to strike back in the second quarter, however something similar happened, where Fulneck maintained a tremendous team spirit, but the fast players in Silcoates managed to score another 3 points for their team and end the quarter 3-0 again.
Before the start of the third quarter, Miss Millin made some changes so that everyone could play and have a go at a different position. In the third quarter, the Silcoates’ team had a lot of chances inside the shooting area, however Freya, Louise, Fran and Eliza did an amazing job defending and saved a lot of the attacking play. The result at the end of the quarter was a repeated 3-0 win for Silcoates.
We never lost hope even though we were losing and so we came back stronger in the last quarter. Although this wasn’t enough to beat the powerful Silcoates. Fulneck showed a great team spirit and attitude towards the winning team, led by the captain Tajmae Nyamande, who was also chosen woman of the match. The total was 13-0, the Fulneck girls have learnt a lot about teamwork, resilience and optimism in this first match of the year, and hope to come back stronger in matches to come.
We all had an excellent time—thanks to Mr Downes and Miss Millin.
