Students graduate from Mixed Martial Arts class

Fifteen of our senior students completed their 12-week introduction to Mixed Martial Arts on Wednesday and were awarded Level 1 grading certificates.

MMA has been a popular addition to the wide range of sports offered through our weekly Senior Games programme and has provided our students with the opportunity to learn a range of skills, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and general self defence.

Over the course of the Spring Term our students have grown in confidence and aptitude and, for their final session, were put through their paces by coaches Michael Faulkner and Roxanne Noble in a special sparring session.

A number of our students excelled during the programme and Annabelle Webster (Y13) was named ‘Best Student’ and was awarded an eight-week training bursary at The MAC @ Haworth in order to enable her to continue developing her MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills.

After Easter the students will have the opportunity to broaden their skill-base with a three-week introduction to Boxing and Muay Thai.
