Top prize for Fulneck chemists

Four students from Year 8, Maya Zamir, Jacob Sowden, Bethany Trivett and Lucia Margaix participated in this year’s Salters’ Chemistry Challenge at York University.

The students had to carry out a range of analytical tests to identify salts as well as chromatography experiments on a range of inks.

They were competing against 12 other schools in the Yorkshire area. The competition was tough but Fulneck students demonstrated fantastic experimental skills and won first place.

The competition was judged by a leading professor of Chemistry at York University as well as a representative from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The judges were particularly impressed with the Fulneck students’ team-work and organisation.
