Boarding School Fun and Games

What is the evening routine for boarders?
After lessons the school day has finished pupils return to the boarding house unless they have an extracurricular club to attend. This time is free for boarders to relax, play in the gardens or visit the local shop until evening meal at 5.30pm. After evening meal all pupils must attend supervised prep sessions. Prep finishes at approximately 7.30pm when the pupils can take part in organised activities or relax with friends. Each year group has an allocated lights out time.

Boarders weekend and evening activitiesWhat weekend activities are available for pupils who board?
In additional to the extra‐curricular activities which are available to all our pupils, we organise weekend activities for all the boarders which are optional for the older pupils. They are wide ranging and include:

  • Trips to cities around the UK
  • Outings to various tourist attractions such as theme parks and zoos
  • Activities including quad biking, bowling, ice‐skating and going to the cinema
  • Seasonal activities such as fireworks displays, BBQs and Easter treasure hunts.
  • Opportunities to visit shopping centres in locations such as Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield.

Boarders evening and weekend activitiesAre there any sporting activities at weekends?
Yes, our boarders are able to make use of the school’s sports facilities at the weekend including tennis, basketball, football and fitness. Boarders can also take advantage of the 9‐hole golf course or the horse riding at the stables, both located at the end of the school site. During summer weekends, we also use facilities in the local parks. Many of our sports teams also have competitive events at weekends for example Rugby, Football, Netball and Swimming.
