Junior Academic
Fulneck Junior School is unique in that we welcome pupils with a wide ability range – from those who have quite specific learning difficulties to those who show evidence of being in the Gifted and Talented spectrum.
How can we achieve this?
Fulneck Junior School has developed a clear and effective system of:
- Assessing both a child’s academic ability and their potential.
- Providing a personalised, targeted education.
- Regularly monitoring progress and adjusting our teaching as necessary.
Whatever a child’s ability, when they come to Fulneck Junior School, we can assure you that they will reach their potential. However, we also believe that education is not about pushing children to the point where they feel anxious and under pressure. Through our ongoing, regular assessment, monitoring and target setting, each child is able to work at their own pace appropriate to their needs.
- Children with Special Needs - in-class support.
- Children with Specific Learning Difficulties (eg. Dyslexia) - specialist assessment, personalised plans resulting in individual or small group teaching in a specialist unit along with in-class support.
- Children identified as 'Gifted and Talented' – regular small group workshops in a range of subjects which help develop higher order thinking skills.
