Junior Education

Developing skills and fuelling imagination

Education is a lifelong journey and in the Junior School we realise the importance of a good start. It is here that the foundations for learning, established in Lambs’ Hill, are strengthened. We encourage children to discuss in class, to ‘find out’ for themselves and to follow up work with their own research, so developing enquiring minds.

In Years 1 and 2 of the Junior School, pupils are taught mainly by their class teacher. As they progress into Years 3-6 there is an increasing emphasis on specialist teaching. The range of subjects is broadened beyond the National Curriculum core of English, Maths and Science to include: ICT, Geography, History, French, Music, Religious Education, Art, Design Technology, Games, PE, Swimming, Drama and PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education).

Pupils are taught in small groups by well-qualified staff dedicated to the children in their care. The children benefit from access to first-class facilities which include the library, gymnasium, ICT suite, dedicated science and technology rooms and extensive grounds. Specialist instrumental music tuition is also provided for all pupils.

Pupils will discover a learning environment which is happy, stimulating, full of opportunities, challenges and excitement. Our pupils learn in a caring and positive atmosphere and are encouraged to ‘have a go’ and to ‘do their best’.

In the Junior School we recognise that each child is unique and has a distinct set of abilities and talents. In addition to what happens in the classroom, the pupils have access to a wide range of extra-curricular activities both during and after the school day. Activities change each term and reflect the academic, creative, sporting, musical and dramatic expertise within the school.

There is no doubting the distinctive nature of Fulneck Junior School – it provides an environment where young people flourish through individual care and encouragement. They progress into our Senior School confident and ready to take advantage of the many opportunities that await them.

Our Junior School will refine perspectives, develop skills and further imagination.
