Music and Drama
Music and Drama are unique ways of communicating which can inspire and motivate children. They are vehicles for personal expression and can play an important part in the personal development of young people. Music and Drama reflect the culture and society in which we live, and so the teaching and learning of these key areas enable children to better understand the world they live in.
Pupils in Years 2, 3 and 4 are able to develop their musical understanding through learning the recorder with one of the in-house music specialists as part of the allocated music time. This not only develops their understanding of rhythm, notation and other related strands of the curriculum, but allows them to become more experienced in performing, thus improving musicality, appreciation and enjoyment of music - not to mention boosting their confidence and their social awareness.
Pupils from Reception to Year 6 are given the opportunity to learn a range of percussion, woodwind, brass and stringed instruments. Those children who wish to have extra lessons on the instruments of their choice, may pay for further extra-curricular tuition with peripatetic teachers.
We believe that music enriches the lives of people, so we aim to involve as many children as possible in musical activities. We have a strong school choir which meets on a weekly basis. Each year there is a musical production - last summer, our production of ‘Alice, the Musical’, bringing together singing, acting and dancing, was a great success.
Fulneck also has a junior band which meets weekly and performs at a number of events through the year. A more recent addition is the Rock Band Club, which also meets weekly.
