FAQ

How big is the school?
We currently have around 400 day pupils on roll, with room for approximately 75 boarding pupils. Our pupils range from age 3 to 18 and the boy/girl split is around 60:40.

What are the term dates?
Please see the Calendar dates for a full list of term and other important dates.

What are the hours of the school day?

In the Nursery and Junior School the day begins at 8.50am and finishes at 3.45pm. In the Senior School and Sixth Form the day begins at 8.50am and finishes at 3.55pm.

Do you provide early and late class facilities?
Yes, day pupils can be dropped off at school from 8am.  Supervised after-school facilities are provided until 5.30pm. This is provided free of charge except for pupils up to and including Year 2 where more stringent supervision regulations have resulted in a small daily charge being levied. Pupils may stay on for tea and until 7:00pm at a small extra charge. A breakfast service is also available for early arrivals. Please see the Early/Late & Holiday Care Page for further information. We also run a Holiday Club during the School holidays for day pupils aged between 3 and 11.

What are your class sizes?
Our policy is to keep class sizes small to enable the individual to fulfil their potential. Junior School classes do not go above 18 without extra staffing being allocated. Senior School classes range between 10-20. The current average is around 16.

What is the staff to pupil ratio?
1:9

Where exactly is the school?
The school is situated only 15 minutes from the centre of Leeds yet overlooks the picturesque Tong Valley, enabling the pupils to benefit from city living in a tranquil country environment - the best of both worlds in our opinion. See the How to Find Us/Map page for our exact location.

Are there any School Buses?
We run three dedicated buses to Fulneck from the Brighouse/Cleckheaton, Keighley and North Leeds areas. You can download the school bus schedule here. The School is also very well serviced by public service buses from Morley, Bradford and Leeds. See the West Yorkshire Metro website for further details.

What languages do you teach?
In the Junior School, French is taught from Year 3. In the senior school Spanish is normally taught to all pupils to the end of Year 9. Most pupils in Years 8 and 9 study a second language, French or German. In Year 10 all foreign languages become optional.

Do you teach separate Sciences?
In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils study Chemistry, Physics and Biology as separate subjects. In Years 10 and 11 pupils may either continue with the three separate sciences or opt for the Combined Science Dual Award.

What about weekly boarding?
This can be a useful arrangement for busy working parents; no time wasted on long bus journeys and supervised study in the evenings. We offer pleasant, modern accommodation in a family atmosphere and the pupils can see their friends at home at the weekends. Boarding staff would be happy to talk this through with you. Flexi-boarding arrangements can be made for occasional and short-term boarding requirements. Please see the Boarding page for further details.

When is the next Open Day?
We host a number of Open Days throughout the school year, please see the Forthcoming Events page for further details. Your family are also invited to make an appointment for an individual tour at a time convenient to you. Please contact us if you would like to visit Fulneck School.

At what age can my child join the school?
At any age from 3 to 17, as long as places are available.

When is the Entrance Examination and what does it test?
Our main Entrance Examination Day is held in January each year, although Taster Days and Entrance Examinations can be arranged at your convenience. Children are assessed on their numeracy and literacy skills. The entrance examination to Senior School includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests. A school report is also requested. For overseas students unable to come to Fulneck to sit our exam, we can make arrangements for your child to be tested in their home country.

How do we apply?
An application form will be included in the prospectus, together with details of fees. Alternatively, you can download the Application Form here.
