Dear Parents
It will come as no great surprise that we have decided to postpone the Year 9 Parents’ Evening scheduled for Thursday 14 January.
We are still unsure as to how long these adverse weather conditions will stay with us but we will advise you of a new date for this important consultation evening as soon as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Yours sincerely

School Open Tuesday 12 January 2010
It is our intention that the school will be open on Tuesday. There is no significant snowfall or freezing temperatures forecast on the Met Office website. The main risk, as occurred today, is the state of the roads in the Pudsey area. We will hope that something is done by the Council to alleviate the conditions. As always, we ask parents to use their discretion and judgement in deciding whether it is safe to send your children to school. We will endeavour to run late class as normal. If there is any change of plan we will post it here by 7am.
Public examinations and Year 10 school exams will take places as scheduled.
Year 11 Sixth Form Taster Day will run as planned on Wednesday.

Exam Information
Friday 8 January 2010
Dear Parents
I would just like to take this opportunity to remind you that the external examination timetable planned for the next few weeks will run as published. We are not in a position to postpone or change external examination dates as these are dictated to us by each individual examination board. You will have heard on the national news that this will affect many students throughout the country but we are optimistic, given the number of pupils who have managed to get into School over the last few days, that the majority of our Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils will be able to sit their examinations as planned.
If for any reason your son/daughter is unable to attend an examination, he or she will be re-entered in the summer.
We will do everything possible to ensure your children are supported through the examination sessions.
Thank you for your continued support during these difficult weather conditions.
Yours sincerely
Mrs D M Newman

School Opening Update
Thursday 7 January 2010
Well done to the 65% of pupils who made it to school today. We managed to run more or less a normal timetable. The icy conditions remain, and while the forecast is for some snow late tonight, and after midnight, tomorrow appears to be sunny and cold.
The school will be open tomorrow, Friday 8 January. Late Room will not be operating. Click here to go to our Parents' Zone.

School Open Thursday as normal
Wednesday 6 January 2010
Dear Parents
We share your frustration over the weather conditions and the impact on your children’s schooling. It is always a difficult decision, not made lightly, as to whether to close the school due to snow.
We have checked the BBC and Met Office local weather forecasts for the next 48 hours in helping us to decide what we should do tomorrow. It appears that we should expect light snow during this evening and in the early part of the night, but with temperatures down to -5˚. This combination is likely to make travelling conditions extremely difficult in the morning, not only for a significant number of pupils but also for some staff who live in more distant and remote locations.
I know that many parents have to get to work and have no easy means of child care. In consultation with Mrs Newman (Head of Seniors) and Mr Goulbourn (Head of Juniors) we have decided that the school will be open on Thursday. It is highly unlikely that we will be able to run a normal timetable, but we can ensure that your children will be cared for during the day and we will provide whatever teaching we can.
School buses will be running but could be subject to delays, depending on road conditions.
Our estates team are working very hard to clear the paths around the school site as well as the car park, although their good work could be undone by further snow falls. If you do plan to bring your child to school by car tomorrow we ask, as a safety measure, that you park near the entrance to Fulneck and walk the final stretch to the school Reception. Please ensure that your children have suitable footwear and school coats during this period of inclement weather.
It has been necessary to change the security codes on the external doors so all pupils will need to report in at Reception to be given the new code.
There will be no late room facility after school tomorrow.
As always, we stress that the decision as to whether to send your child to school rests with you and your own circumstances. If you plan to keep your child at home it would be helpful to e-mail this message to school (

) if at all possible, rather than telephoning.
A decision about Friday’s arrangements will be posted at the end of Thursday school.
Yours sincerely
