Achieving success, fulfilling potential
Whether the children have been part of Fulneck from the age of three, or are joining us from another school, they will benefit from a strong pastoral care system where academic and personal guidance is available to all. We will challenge and enthuse our pupils in all areas of school life.
The Senior School provides equal opportunities for all pupils in class sizes which generally do not exceed 18. Examination groups may be much smaller. Close personal attention from dedicated, specialist teachers enables the pupils to perform to their full potential.
Pupils in the first three years of the Senior School follow a broad curriculum including three separate sciences, the opportunity to study two modern languages, technology and the arts. They are placed in sets according to academic ability for most subjects.
The two years leading to GCSE inevitably involve a degree of specialism; in addition to the ‘core curriculum’ of English, Mathematics, Science and Religious Education, pupils, in consultation with staff and parents, choose their options from a wide range of subjects. We will inspire all our pupils to achieve the best possible examination results, although education at Fulneck involves much more than this.
Participation in extra-curricular activities is encouraged thereby promoting attributes such as teamwork, leadership, skills acquisition, healthy living and growth in self-confidence. The school has abundant recreational space, including extensive playing fields. Each year all pupils will have the opportunity to participate in numerous educational and recreational trips in both the UK and abroad.
We encourage achievement and monitor progress by creating an environment of hard work and self-discipline. Individual pupil assessment profiles, regular setting and marking of structured homework, frequent assessment with major end-of-year exams and two annual written reports for parents all contribute to this process. Happiness, mutual respect for others and self-respect are at the heart of all that we do.
A supervised late room is available until 5.30pm.
