Pastoral Care
We aim to create a community which recognises each student as an individual, nurturing in each a sense of dignity and self-worth, as well as fostering supportive and caring relationships.
Our pastoral care system helps our students to develop their talents and potential, enabling each to become a confident, responsible and useful member of society.
The Fulneck ethos of tailored education and a nurturing environment runs throughout the whole school and has created a ‘special atmosphere’ on which many visitors to the school comment. This is due to a combined approach of structured guidance coupled with encouragement and praise. This combination is essential in order that students and staff can work together in a happy school.

Pastoral Aims
- Every student is allocated to a tutor group of no more than a dozen students.
- Help and guidance is offered through a structured tutorial programme, covering aspects from managing one’s workload and finances to how to develop friendships in a new environment.
- Individuals are supported by tutors.
- A buddy system is in place for Sixth Form students new to the school.
- A full and varied social programme is available to help students make friends and settle into Sixth Form life.
Pastoral staff help to maintain high standards of students' behaviour. They strive to ensure that students are happy in school and will always contact parents/guardians if there are any concerns. Open communication between home and school is essential and we are always grateful to be informed of problems outside school which may affect a student so that we can support them appropriately. Form tutors see each student at least once a term on a one-to-one basis for pastoral mentoring.{/showhide}
