Academic
Independent learning and academic distinction...
Fulneck School offers a wide range of AS and A level courses. The vast majority of Lower Sixth students normally study four subjects in their first year in Sixth Form, reducing to three examination subjects in the Upper Sixth.
Additional qualifications available in the Upper Sixth include AS level Further Mathematics and Critical Thinking. Students may also opt to study for the Extended Project Qualification (between January of Lower Sixth and October of Upper Sixth). This equips the most able students with independent research and study skills highly valued by university departments across the subject range.
We embrace a wide ability range in Sixth Form whereby those with lower grades at GCSE or those working in English as a second language may follow an individually tailored Foundation programme.
Top University placings
Our annual in-school Higher Education Conference (including a presentation by a senior member of staff from the University of Leeds), attendance at a UCAS Higher Education Convention and at university open days and many other activities ensure that our students are fully informed when making that critical choice of a university and degree level course. Almost all our students secure places at their first choice of university.
In 2010 our top student (graduating with 5 A*) started a degree in Natural Science at Cambridge; whilst in 2011 an exceptionally high number of students secured places to study medicine at some of the UK's most prestigeous universities.

Exceptional Examination Results
Advanced Level league tables regularly place Fulneck Sixth Form amongst the top performing maintained and independent Sixth Forms in the city and the region. Of the fifty Sixth Forms in the Leeds area, Fulneck was the top independent boarding school in 2010 and 2011 in West Yorkshire in terms of average A/AS level points per student. Our candidates achieved twice the national average number of passes at the new A* grade and 63% of our grades were in the A* to B range.
