Sixth Form

Independent learning and academic distinction

On joining the Sixth Form at Fulneck School, students have the opportunity to experience life in one of the best Sixth Form Study Centres in the North of England.  Renowned for its high academic achievement, our Sixth Form provides valuable continuity of learning and is structured to equip students with the qualifications and personal qualities needed to face the challenges of higher education and an ever changing job market.

Our Sixth Form community is made up of students progressing not only from our Senior School, but also those from other schools who wish to take advantage of our outstanding reputation as one of the best Sixth Forms in the UK.  Fulneck School was named as a ‘Top 50 Private School’ in the 'Independent' newspaper, based on our students' A Level results.

We offer a wide range of A Levels as well as a Foundation Programme to suit a variety of abilities.  Most students study four subjects at AS Levels in the Lower Sixth, and three in the Upper Sixth at A2 Level.  The Foundation Programme provides a mix of GCSEs and AS Levels.  The school aims to equip students with the skills and the passion to achieve highly at advanced level and in higher education, and to become well organised and effective independent learners.

There is close, personalised support for all university applicants to ensure the right choices are made at this critical point in young people's lives.

The Sixth Form curriculum is regularly reviewed to ensure that it meets the needs of individual students, the demands of Higher Education and the requirements of future employers.  Support is always available from a personal tutor who helps with setting targets, monitoring progress and pastoral care issues.

A stimulating Sixth Form enrichment programme includes Advanced Study Skills Seminars, Leadership Challenge events, a Charities Committee, social events, of which the most eagerly anticipated is the annual Sixth Form Ball held each year in June, and the opportunity to take part in overseas expeditions with the World Challenge Organisation.  In recent years, our Sixth Form students have visited Brazil and trekked in the Malaysian jungle.  All of our Sixth Form students have leadership responsibilities within the school and develop a wide range of team working and communication skills.

The Sixth Form at Fulneck is a stimulating, rewarding experience which aims to develop confident, caring and responsible young people who are a credit to the school, their families, and above all, themselves.
